Pic du Midi d'Ossau is a distinctive mountain peak in the French Pyrenees, located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department within the Pyrenees National Park. Standing at 2,884 meters, it towers over the Ossau Valley and is widely recognized for its isolated position and unique silhouette, resembling a split tooth. Geologically, the peak is composed of the remnants of an extinct Permian volcano that collapsed into a caldera. The first ascent is believed to have been made by a local shepherd in 1787, while the first recorded climb was achieved by Guillaume Delfau in 1797. The mountain is an emblem of the Béarn region and remains a challenging target for mountaineers, as there is no simple hiking trail to the summit; all routes require technical climbing. The surrounding high-alpine terrain is home to chamois and griffon vultures. The reflection of the peak in the nearby Ayous Lakes is one of the most iconic and photographed scenes in the Pyrenees.
