Highlights of 2026

Located at the confluence of the Orge and Seine rivers in the Essonne department, Athis-Mons is distinguished by its terraced landscape and its pioneering role in global aviation history. The upper historical town retains much of its ancient charm, anchored by the Saint-Denis church, which features a beautifully preserved 12th-century Romanesque bell tower. However, the town is most famous for its ties to the sky. In the early 20th century, the area shared the grounds of Port-Aviation, recognized as the world’s first organized airfield. This aerospace heritage is kept alive today at the Musée Delta, an aviation museum dedicated to delta-wing aircraft. The museum's star attraction is an original Concorde supersonic jet, which visitors are allowed to board and explore. Balancing its high-flying history, Athis-Mons also has ample natural retreats, notably the expansive Parc d'Avaucourt and the revitalized paths along the Seine. It is a fantastic stop for families and aviation enthusiasts alike, blending quaint French provincial history with monumental technological achievements.
