Juvisy-sur-Orge is a pivotal municipality in the southern suburbs of Paris, located in the Essonne department. Its identity is split between its scientific heritage and its role as a transportation titan. In 1883, the astronomer Camille Flammarion established his observatory here in a former royal post house, making Juvisy a center for stellar observation for decades. Simultaneously, the town developed one of the most complex railway infrastructures in Europe, serving as a gateway to the south of France. The Juvisy bridge across the Seine is a historic landmark that has seen multiple iterations, connecting the town to Draveil. During WWII, the town's marshaling yards made it a prime target for Allied air raids in 1944, leading to significant destruction. Today, Juvisy is a multicultural urban center, featuring a major aquatic center and integrated green corridors along the Orge riverbanks.
