Orly is a French commune in the Val-de-Marne department, located in the Île-de-France region just south of Paris. The town's identity is deeply linked to the Paris-Orly Airport, one of Europe's major aviation hubs, which was established on a former military airfield. Geographically, Orly sits on a plateau overlooking the Seine valley, offering a mix of industrial zones and residential neighborhoods. Historically, it was a rural village that underwent rapid transformation during the post-war era, becoming a symbol of France's modernization. The local economy is dominated by the airport activities, logistics, and aeronautical services, but the municipality also focuses on environmental sustainability and social cohesion. Points of interest include the Parc Méliès and the cultural center, which host various events throughout the year. Orly is a vital part of the Grand Paris metropolitan project, benefiting from extensive rail links including the RER C and future Metro line extensions.
