Mehun-sur-Yèvre is a historic town in the Cher department of central France, famous for its royal associations and industrial heritage. During the 15th century, it was a major political hub as King Charles VII frequented the town's magnificent castle, which had been lavishly reconstructed by Jean, Duke of Berry. The castle's remains still tower over the town, offering a glimpse into the late Gothic architectural splendor. In the 19th century, Mehun reinvented itself as a center for porcelain production. The arrival of the Pillivuyt factory in 1818 turned the town into a worldwide reference for high-end ceramics, an industry that remains the economic backbone of the community today. The town is beautifully situated at the confluence of the Yèvre river and the historic Berry Canal, providing a network of scenic waterways and gardens. The Jean de Berry Museum, housed in one of the castle's restored towers, meticulously documents the town's dual history of royal grandeur and fine porcelain craftsmanship.
