Châteauneuf-sur-Loire is a historic town set in the Loiret department, located within the scenic Loire Valley, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. The town's identity and development have been fundamentally shaped by its location on the banks of the Loire River, which served as the region's primary economic artery for centuries. The centerpiece of the community is the magnificent Château de Châteauneuf-sur-Loire, redesigned in the 17th century in a grand classical style. The castle is surrounded by an extensive English-style park, famous for its bustling displays of azaleas and rhododendrons that draw visitors from across the country every spring. Housed within the former castle stables, the Musée de la Marine de Loire provides a comprehensive history of river navigation and trade. Another prominent feature of the landscape is the impressive suspension bridge, completed in 1946 to replace an earlier structure destroyed during World War II. Today, the town is a prosperous hub for agriculture, tourism, and specialized industry, including the bridge-building company Baillaud. Châteauneuf-sur-Loire remains a vital stop for travelers exploring the cultural riches and natural splendor of central France.
