House of Joan of Arc
The House of Joan of Arc in Orléans is a faithful reconstruction of the medieval half-timbered house where the French national heroine stayed during the Siege of Orléans in 1429. The original building was the residence of Jacques Boucher, treasurer to the Duke of Orléans. Joan resided here from April 29 to May 9, 1429, as she led the French forces to a decisive victory against the English army. The original structure was tragically destroyed by aerial bombing in 1940 during World War II. It was later rebuilt on its original site in the historic district near Place du Martroi and reopened in 1974 as a museum and research center. Today, the museum provides visitors with an immersive experience regarding the life of the Maid of Orléans.
