Digoin is a captivating town located in the Saône-et-Loire department in the southern part of Burgundy, France. It is uniquely positioned at the crossroads of three major waterways: the Canal latéral à la Loire, the Canal du Centre, and the Canal de Roanne à Digoin, and is situated at the confluence of the Loire and Arroux rivers. This strategic location earned it the nickname 'the city of water.' Its most iconic landmark is the Digoin Canal Bridge, a 243-meter-long masonry aqueduct completed in 1838 that carries the canal over the Loire River. This engineering marvel is a popular spot for both boaters and pedestrians. Beyond its maritime significance, Digoin is world-renowned for its long-standing ceramic and pottery tradition. The high-quality clay deposits in the area led to the establishment of major ceramic factories like 'Sarreguemines' and 'Grès de Digoin,' products of which are highly sought after by collectors. The town's Ceramic Museum provides an in-depth look at this artistic heritage. Modern Digoin is a hub for river tourism, with a busy marina offering boat rentals for exploring the French canals. Its lifestyle is quintessential Burgundy, focusing on slow living, fishing, and cycling along the towpaths of the photogenic canals.
