Neuville-sur-Saône is a spirited and characterful town located north of the Lyon Metropolitan area in eastern France. Ideally situated on the left bank of the Saône river, its geography has historically made it a significant center for trade and river navigation. The town has a deep historical connection with the Archbishops of Lyon, who for a long time maintained a summer residence here. The architectural highlight is the Château d'Ombreval, a magnificent 15th-century castle that now serves as the town hall and is surrounded by a large public park. Neuville is famous throughout the region for its traditional Friday morning market, which is one of the largest and most popular in the Saône Valley. The town center features elegant 18th and 19th-century buildings, and the riverfront promenades offer beautiful views of the Beaujolais hills on the opposite bank. Economically, Neuville serves as a regional hub for services and commerce, supported by its excellent transport links to central Lyon. The town is also known for its active cultural scene, hosting various festivals and events that celebrate its local heritage and the importance of the river to its identity.
