In mid-July European bands compete in the jazz contest through the streets of Megève, bringing a festive weekend of traditional jazz.
Each year in late January Megève becomes a snow golf course, hosting a full week of competitions and initiations on the white greens.
Conceptualized in the 1920s by the Rothschild family as a French alternative to the Swiss resort of St. Moritz, Megève remains one of the most prestigious and elegantly preserved ski destinations in the Alps. Unlike purpose-built resorts composed of concrete blocks, this town evolved from a genuine farming village, retaining its medieval heart complete with a 14th-century church, a central square, and cobblestone streets lined with high-end boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. During the winter, the streets are traffic-free, and visitors traverse the snow-covered center in horse-drawn sleighs. Megève is part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski domain, offering over 400 kilometers of relatively gentle, tree-lined pistes that provide constant, unimpeded views of the Mont Blanc massif. In the summer, the alpine pastures transform into a playground for mountain biking and hiking, while the local gastronomy, featuring dishes like tartiflette and fondue Savoyarde, continues to attract culinary enthusiasts year-round to its rustic mountain chalets.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
