Donzère is a historically significant town located in the Drôme department of southeastern France, situated along the Rhône River. The town's strategic position has made it a focal point for trade and travel since antiquity, serving as a gateway between the northern and southern regions of the country. One of its most notable landmarks is the Church of Saint-Philibert, a striking example of Romanesque architecture from the 12th century. The 20th century saw the creation of the Donzère-Mondragon canal, a massive engineering project that significantly altered the local landscape and provided a major source of hydroelectric power for the region. Geographically, Donzère sits at the entrance to the Tricastin plain, an area famous for its limestone cliffs and Mediterranean climate. The local economy is diverse, blending modern industrial activities with traditional agriculture, including the production of nougat from Montélimar nearby and the cultivation of diverse stone fruits and vineyards.
