Tiilikkajärvi National Park (Finland)

Weather…

Tiilikkajärvi National Park spans the border between North Savo and Kainuu regions in central Finland and was established in 1982. Covering an area of about 18 square kilometers, it protects a unique lake landscape characterized by extensive sandy beaches and glacial eskers. A major historical feature of the park is the boundary stone in Lake Tiilikkajärvi, which marks the border line established by the Peace Treaty of Teusina in 1595. The park's geography is a blend of sparse pine forests, open raised bogs, and the central Lake Tiilikkajärvi, known for its exceptionally clear water. The undisturbed nature provides a habitat for specialized bird species such as the plover and the whooper swan, which breed in the vast mire areas. Hikers enjoy approximately 20 kilometers of trails, often crossing fragile wetlands via wooden boardwalks. In the past, the area was used for timber floating, traces of which can still be seen along the old waterways. The combination of historical border significance and rare geological beach formations makes this park an ecological gem.
