Sapokka Water Park (Finland)

Weather…

Sapokka Water Park in Kotka is one of the most awarded park areas in Finland and a masterpiece of landscape architecture. The name Sapokka is derived from the spade-like shape of the bay where the park is situated. The central design element is water in all its forms: a spectacular 20-meter-high artificial waterfall, tranquil ponds, and small streams define the landscape. Another outstanding feature is the use of over 20 different types of Finnish stone, showcasing the diversity of domestic geology. The park was designed under the leadership of city gardener Heikki Laaksonen, transforming a formerly polluted bay into an ecological paradise. Especially in spring and summer, the grounds impress with opulent plantings of azaleas, rhododendrons, and thousands of bulb plants. At night, subtle lighting enhances the park's features, giving it an almost magical atmosphere. Sapokka is not just a place of beauty but also a prime example of successful urban renewal and environmental restoration.
