Kiikoinen Church (Finland)

Weather…

Kiikoinen Church, located in the municipality of Sastamala, was built between 1851 and 1853 and stands as an impressive testament to 19th-century Finnish wooden architecture. The design was produced by Pehr Johan Gylich, a prominent architect of the era known for his work in the Empire style. The church is a wooden cruciform structure with a prominent tower situated above the western entrance. Its bright facade and neoclassical details give the building an elegant yet dignified appearance, characteristic of the religious structures from this epoch. The interior accommodates approximately 600 worshipers and features an altarpiece painted by Alexandra Frosterus-Såltin in 1883, depicting the Transfiguration of Christ. Perched on a hill and surrounded by a well-kept cemetery, the church is a highly visible landmark in the Satakunta region. To this day, it remains an animated center for the local parish and is protected as a cultural monument of national significance.
