Keitele Church (Finland)

Weather…

Keitele Church, located in the Northern Savonia region, is an impressive example of late 19th-century Finnish wooden architecture. The current church building was completed in 1876 and constructed according to the designs of architect Axel Hampus Dalström. Dalström, who served as the director of the Finnish Board of Public Works and Buildings at the time, designed the church as a wooden cruciform structure with a prominent tower over the western entrance. With a seating capacity of approximately 1,000, it is one of the larger rural churches in the region, reflecting the population growth in the Keitele area during that era. The interior is characterized by its symmetry and the artistic wood carvings that adorn the altar and pulpit. The altarpiece depicts the Crucifixion of Jesus and was painted by artist Juho Heikki Ervasti. Over the years, the church has undergone several renovations, most recently in 2000, to ensure fire safety and the structural preservation of the protected building. Today, it remains a vital part of Northern Savonia's cultural heritage and a preferred site for religious ceremonies.
