Dakhla Oasis is regarded as one of the most easy on the eye oases in Egypt, situated about 350 kilometers west of the Nile Valley. It consists of several small settlements surrounded by lush palm groves and bustling gardens. The historical heart of the oasis is Qasr Dakhla, a fortified medieval Islamic town featuring winding alleys and well-preserved mud-brick buildings. Archaeological excavations in the vicinity have uncovered remains from the Old Kingdom as well as Roman-era settlements. The oasis is famous for its numerous hot springs, which are believed to have therapeutic properties. Agriculture is the primary economic sector, with dates, figs, and oranges being the leading products. Dakhla has successfully maintained its traditional atmosphere, as modernization has progressed more slowly here than in Kharga. The residents are well-known for their hospitality and traditional handicrafts. In recent years, land reclamation projects have been launched to expand agricultural areas using fossil groundwater reserves. For tourists, Dakhla provides a tranquil base for exploring the desert and the ancient ruins of Balat.
