Bayahibe
Bayahibe provides a characterful blend of traditional Dominican village life and laid-back Caribbean tourism. Unlike the highly frequented beaches in the east, the sea here on the southern coast is mirror-calm and crystal clear. Travelers flock to Bayahibe to join the daily catamaran or speedboat tours to the paradisiacal Saona Island in the Cotubanamá National Park, which enchants visitors with its natural starfish pools and white sands. Bayahibe is also the scuba diving capital of the Dominican Republic. Underwater, divers can explore colorful coral reefs, cave systems, and impressive shipwrecks like the St. George. In the evening, the village comes alive as locals and tourists mingle in small colmados and seafood restaurants around the small harbor. It’s the great spot to enjoy the fresh catch of the day or local lobster while watching a spectacular sunset. Bayahibe is located about a 45-minute drive from Punta Cana Airport and just 20 minutes from La Romana. The climate is tropically warm all year round, but the months from December to May offer the most stable weather conditions, with the lowest chance of rain and excellent visibility for diving and snorkeling.
