Agro-industry San Juan (Dominican Republic)

Weather…

The San Juan Valley in the southwest of the Dominican Republic is often referred to as the granary of the south due to its enormous agricultural productivity. This region is of crucial importance for national food security, providing a significant portion of the country's production of beans, rice, and corn. The fertile soils benefit from an extensive irrigation system, primarily fed by the Sabaneta Dam, which was inaugurated in 1981. In addition to grains and legumes, the cultivation of tobacco and coffee in the adjacent mountain ranges of the Cordillera Central plays an important economic role. The local agro-industry includes numerous mills and processing centers that prepare raw materials for the domestic market and export. In recent decades, the mechanization of agriculture in San Juan de la Maguana has increased, making the region one of the most modern agricultural centers in the country.
