Doraleh Container Terminal

The Doraleh Container Terminal (DCT) is a state-of-the-art deep-water port facility located to the west of Djibouti City. Inaugurated in 2009, it stands as one of the largest and most modern container handling facilities in the Horn of Africa. The terminal plays a crucial role in Djibouti's economy and is the primary gateway for the international trade of landlocked Ethiopia, which funnels over 95% of its imports and exports through Djiboutian ports. With a quay length of over 1,000 meters and equipped with Super-Post-Panamax cranes, DCT can service some of the world's largest container vessels. Its annual handling capacity is approximately 1.6 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). Its strategic location at the entrance to the Red Sea, on one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, underscores its geostrategic importance. The terminal is directly linked to the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway, ensuring the efficient onward transport of goods to the Ethiopian hinterland. The development of DCT is part of a broader strategy to transform Djibouti into a regional logistics and trade hub.
