Viborg Cathedral (Denmark)

Weather…

Viborg Cathedral is one of Denmark's most significant religious monuments and serves as the seat of the Diocese of Viborg. The original Romanesque cathedral was begun around 1130, replacing an earlier wooden church on the site. Over the centuries, the building suffered from numerous fires and collapses, which eventually led to a near-total demolition and reconstruction in the late 19th century in the Neo-Romanesque style. A standout feature of the interior is the monumental frescoes by artist Joakim Skovgaard, created between 1901 and 1913, which illustrate biblical stories in an impressive manner. The crypt, the oldest preserved part of the church, contains the graves of prominent figures, including King Erik Klipping, who was murdered in 1286. Today, the cathedral is regarded as a masterpiece of Danish art history and attracts thousands of visitors annually.
