Odense Cathedral, also known as St. Canute's Cathedral, is one of Denmark's most significant examples of Brick Gothic architecture. The current cathedral was constructed between the 13th and 15th centuries on the site of an earlier church where King Canute the Saint was murdered in 1086. His shrine, along with the remains of his brother Benedict, is displayed in the church's crypt, making the cathedral a vital pilgrimage site. The interior is bright and spacious, dominated by the magnificent altarpiece carved by Claus Berg in the 16th century, which features over 300 intricate figures. As the seat of the Diocese of Funen, the cathedral stands as a symbol of medieval Danish Christianity and the consolidation of royal power.
