Haderslev Cathedral, also known as Our Lady's Church (Vor Frue Kirke), is an outstanding example of Danish Brick Gothic architecture. The church was constructed starting in the mid-13th century on the foundations of an earlier Romanesque granite structure. Its Gothic high choir is particularly impressive, being one of the tallest in Denmark and giving the cathedral a monumental internal atmosphere. Following a catastrophic city fire in 1627, the church was partially rebuilt with Baroque influences, which can still be seen in the design of its windows and tower. Inside, the cathedral houses several priceless artworks, including a bronze baptismal font from 1485 and a magnificent organ. As the seat of the Diocese of Haderslev, the cathedral remains a central pillar of religious life in Northern Schleswig.
