Egeskov Castle, located on the island of Funen in Denmark, is one of Europe's most exquisite and well-preserved Renaissance water castles. Completed in 1554 by nobleman Frands Brockenhuus, the structure was built in the middle of a lake on a foundation of thousands of oak piles. According to local legend, an entire oak forest was felled to create the base, which gave the castle its name, meaning 'Oak Forest.' The architectural design features double walls and machicolations, reflecting the defensive requirements during the turbulent Count's Feud era. Today, the estate spans over 20 hectares of award-winning parkland, featuring intricate hedge mazes and classic formal gardens. Visitors can explore extensive collections on-site, including a vintage automobile museum and the renowned Titania’s Palace dollhouse. Owned by the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille family since 1784, the castle serves as a vital cultural monument, showcasing Danish aristocratic history and military architecture.
