Carlsberg Brewery (Denmark)

Weather…

The Carlsberg Brewery was founded in 1847 by J.C. Jacobsen in the Valby district of Copenhagen and grew to become one of the world's leading beer producers. Jacobsen named the brewery after his son Carl and the hill (Berg) on which the facility was built. The brewery is famous for its scientific contributions; in 1875, Jacobsen established the Carlsberg Laboratory, where in 1883 the method for cultivating pure yeast (Saccharomyces carlsbergensis) was discovered, revolutionizing beer quality worldwide. Additionally, the pH scale was developed here in 1909. Today, the original brewery site is a bustling urban district featuring museums, historic buildings, and the famous Elephant Gates. Carlsberg is not only a symbol of Danish industrial design and entrepreneurship but also a major patron of the arts and sciences through the Carlsberg Foundation. The company now operates modern production plants globally while preserving its Copenhagen heritage as a cultural landmark. Visitors can experience the history of brewing and the founding family's vision at the visitor center.
