The Blue Mountains (Monts Bleus) are a mountain range in the northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, in the Ituri province. They rise to the west of Lake Albert and form part of the western branch of the East African Rift Valley. The range reaches altitudes of over 2,000 meters and is known for its easy on the eye landscapes and cooler climate compared to the surrounding lowlands. The slopes are fertile and are used for agriculture, particularly for growing coffee, tea, and vegetables. The region is rich in gold deposits, which has long led to mining activities, often associated with conflicts and environmental degradation. The Blue Mountains are also of ecological importance, hosting remnants of montane rainforests with a diverse flora and fauna. The strategic location of the mountains has repeatedly made them a theater of conflict between various armed groups in the past.
