Low Jeseník (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Low Jeseník, or Nízký Jeseník, is an expansive highland region in the northeastern Czech Republic, forming part of the Eastern Sudetes. Geologically distinct from the High Jeseník, it consists primarily of Carboniferous sedimentary rocks, such as slate and greywacke, which have eroded into a rolling plateau landscape. The highest point of the range is Slunečná, reaching an altitude of 800 meters above sea level. One of the range's most remarkable features is its evidence of late Cenozoic volcanic activity, with peaks like Velký Roudný and Malý Roudný representing some of the youngest extinct volcanoes in the country. Historically, the area was a significant mining hub for iron ore and slate, a legacy that can still be seen in the architecture of local towns. Currently, the region is characterized by vast forests, agricultural meadows, and the large Slezská Harta reservoir, which is a center for water sports. The sparse population and quiet natural setting make it a favored destination for those seeking tranquility and outdoor recreation away from major tourist centers.
