Kuks Hospital in Eastern Bohemia is a globally unique ensemble of Baroque art and architecture, founded at the beginning of the 18th century by Count Franz Anton von Sporck. Originally planned as a spa resort with healing springs, the facility evolved into a spacious complex that included a hospital for war veterans, a monumental Holy Trinity Church, and a family crypt. Kuks is world-famous primarily for the 'Virtues and Vices' sculpture group by Matthias Bernhard Braun, which lines the path in front of the hospital. These 24 allegories depict human traits with dramatic Baroque expressiveness and are considered milestones of European sculpture. Inside the hospital lies one of the oldest surviving Baroque pharmacies in Central Europe, named 'At the Pomegranate,' with its original furnishings dating back to 1743. Following a comprehensive restoration in 2015, the complex shines anew, serving as a cultural center and a monument to the social and religious ideals of the Baroque era.
