Weather…

The Battlefield of Königgrätz (also known as the Battle of Sadowa) was the site of the decisive military engagement of the Austro-Prussian War on July 3, 1866. Involving over 430,000 soldiers, it was the largest battle of the 19th century fought on Czech soil. The Prussian victory, orchestrated by General Helmuth von Moltke, fundamentally reshaped the European balance of power, leading to the decline of Austrian influence and the subsequent unification of Germany. The Prussian army's use of the advanced Dreyse needle gun and superior tactical maneuvering proved decisive against the Austrian forces. Today, the area around the village of Chlum is a protected historical site containing over 400 monuments, memorials, and mass graves. A modern museum and an observation tower provide detailed insights into the battle's progression and its profound geopolitical consequences, making it a key destination for military history enthusiasts.
