Kroměříž Archbishop's Palace (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Archbishop's Palace in Kroměříž is a jewel of Baroque architecture and served for centuries as the summer residence of the Bishops and Archbishops of Olomouc. The current complex was built on the foundations of an older Gothic castle in the late 17th century under Bishop Karl II von Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn, following the destruction of the Thirty Years' War. The palace is famous for its magnificent halls, including the monumental Assembly Hall, where the Constituent Imperial Diet of the Austrian Monarchy met in 1848. In addition to its architecture, the castle is known for its significant picture gallery, which houses works by Titian, van Dyck, and Cranach. The ensemble also includes the Castle Garden and the nearby Pleasure Garden (Květná zahrada), considered one of the best-preserved examples of an early Baroque French garden in Europe. Due to its art-historical importance and the great integration of architecture and garden design, the complex was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1998.
