The Celtic Oppidum of Hrazany is one of the most significant archaeological sites of the late La Tène period in Central Europe. Established in the 2nd century BC, it occupied a strategic hilltop overlooking the confluence of the Vltava and Mastník rivers, serving as an economic and religious hub for the Boii tribe. The fortified settlement spanned approximately 39 hectares and was protected by massive stone-and-timber ramparts and ditch systems. Archaeological excavations have revealed foundations of residential buildings, workshops, and temple structures, suggesting a highly developed urban organization. Hrazany was positioned along a major trade route used for transporting gold, graphite, and iron. The oppidum was abandoned in the 1st century BC, likely due to political instability and Germanic tribal migrations. Today, an educational trail through the site features informative panels explaining Celtic lifestyle and the construction of the ancient fortifications.

Visiting
The Hrazany Oppidum is a Celtic fortified settlement that is freely accessible as an archaeological monument. The earthworks and ditches are walkable, but there are no reconstructed buildings.
Typical hours
As an open-air monument, there are no opening hours - the site is accessible at any time. Visiting in dry weather is recommended, as paths can become slippery when wet.

Photography is allowed without restrictions. The extensive ramparts and surrounding nature offer excellent photo subjects, especially in autumn.
Time needed
Allow about 1 hour for a walk around the oppidum. Those who want to explore the entire site and surrounding hills should budget 1.5 to 2 hours.

The oppidum is near Sedlčany, from where you can also visit Zvěřinec Castle. The town of Příbram with its Mining Museum is also worth a trip.
Getting there
By car, Hrazany is reached via the road from Sedlčany; a small parking lot is at the village edge. From there, a hiking trail leads to the oppidum in about 20 minutes.
