Beskydy Mountains (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Beskydy Mountains are a prominent part of the Carpathian range in the eastern Czech Republic, bordering Poland and Slovakia. The highest peak is Lysá hora at 1,323 meters, often called the 'Queen of the Beskydy.' Established in 1973, the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Beskydy) is the largest of its kind in the country, covering 1,160 square kilometers. The region is renowned for its deep forests that still provide a habitat for large predators such as lynx, wolves, and occasionally brown bears. A unique feature is the presence of primeval forests, like the Mionší reserve, which is one of the largest fir-beech virgin forests in Central Europe. Culturally, the region is deeply tied to Wallachian traditions, visible in its distinctive wooden architecture and folklore. Mount Radhošť is a significant spiritual site, featuring a famous statue of the pagan god Radegast. The range gives an extensive network of trails and serves as a vital watershed for the Oder and Vistula rivers.
