Zagvozd is located on the northern side of the Biokovo Mountains in the Imotska Krajina region. For a long time, the village was isolated, but since the opening of the 'Sveti Ilija' tunnel, it has been directly connected to the coast, making Zagvozd an important junction. Despite the modern connection, the town has preserved its original character. Zagvozd is famous mainly for the cultural festival 'Glumci u Zagvozdu' (Actors in Zagvozd), held every summer, attracting the most famous Croatian artists to this small mountain village. The nature around Zagvozd is spectacular. The Biokovo massif provides numerous hiking trails leading into the natural park. The landscape is characterized by deep sinkholes, karst phenomena, and rich flora and fauna. In the village itself, you can admire traditional stone houses and taste hearty dishes like 'Peka' (meat cooked under a bell) in local taverns. The hospitality of the residents is legendary. Historically, Zagvozd was an important stop on the old trade routes between the coast and Bosnia. Nearby are Stećci (medieval tombstones), which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. For travelers, Zagvozd features the great combination of mountains and sea: in just 10 minutes through the tunnel, you can reach the beaches of Baška Voda, while sleeping in the fresh and quiet mountain air at night.
