Tugare is situated in the fertile valley between the Mosor and Perun mountain ranges, only 10 km from Omiš and 20 km from Split. The settlement comprises several small hamlets such as Dočine, Podume, and Truša. As part of the former Republic of Poljica (Poljička Republika), Tugare has a proud history of self-governance, with its statute being one of the oldest in Europe. The architecture is rural Dalmatian, featuring massive stone houses preserved for generations. Tugare is especially famous for its agriculture, particularly its cherries (tugarske trešnje), renowned throughout Dalmatia for their exceptional quality and size. Every June, a cherry festival is held to showcase local products and traditions. The area is also a significant center for preparing Soparnik, a traditional savory chard pie recognized as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. For outdoor enthusiasts, the location beneath the Mosor mountain provides numerous hiking trails. A popular hike leads to the small Church of St. Roch (Sv. Roko), offering views across the valley. Tugare is a handy destination for travelers seeking the peace of rural Croatia while remaining within quick reach of the Omiš Riviera beaches and Split's historical landmarks. Local konobas celebrate traditional cuisine, notably dishes cooked under the peka iron bell.
