Playa Tambor

Playa Tambor is beautifully situated directly within the completely remarkable wide expanse of Bahia Ballena, affectionately known locally as Whale Bay, naturally offering one of the consistently calmest and most incredibly safe swimming beaches in all of Costa Rica. Its perfectly gently sloping, entirely dark volcanic sand shoreline is absolutely handy for large families with very young children and exhausted travelers seeking pure, uninterrupted relaxation. The bay's remarkably tranquil ocean waters are perfectly suited for daily paddleboarding, sea kayaking, and casual swimming without the constant, nagging worry of highly dangerous strong rip currents or massive breaking waves. Tambor notably features its very own small domestic airstrip for incredibly quick puddle-jumper flights directly from San Jose, or it can be easily reached via the scenic Puntarenas ferry.
