The Huachipato Steel Plant, located in the city of Talcahuano, is Chile's most important steel mill and a cornerstone of the national industry. The facility was inaugurated in 1950 during the administration of President Gabriel González Videla to reduce the country's dependence on foreign imports. As part of the CAP Group (Compañía de Acero del Pacífico), it processes iron ore from northern Chile into high-quality steel products.
