Weather…

The Huanchaca Ruins in Antofagasta are the remains of a monumental silver foundry built between 1888 and 1892. The facility was operated by the Huanchaca Company of Bolivia to process silver ore extracted from the Pulacayo mine. Its architecture, featuring massive stone walls, resembles a medieval fortress and serves as a testament to the region's industrial boom in the late 19th century. Due to falling silver prices and technical difficulties, operations ceased as early as 1902, after which the complex fell into decay. Today, the site houses the Huanchaca Archaeological Park and a modern museum providing information on the geology and industrial history of the Atacama Desert. The ruins were declared a National Monument in 1974 and remain a landmark symbolizing the economic transformation of the city of Antofagasta.
