A unique feature of Ponta do Sol is the defunct Agostinho Neto Airport, located on a reclaimed level strip right by the sea; it was permanently closed in 2003 due to dangerous crosswinds. The town's architecture is a mix of appealing colonial-era residences and simple fisherman cottages. The climate is often windy due to its exposed location, yet it gives spectacular sunsets that gave the town its name (Sun Point).
