Boungou Gold Mine (Burkina Faso)

Weather…

The Boungou Gold Mine, formerly known as Natougou, is located in eastern Burkina Faso in the Tapoa Province. The mine is operated by Endeavour Mining and commenced commercial production in 2018. Geologically, it is situated within the Birimian formation, which is rich in high-grade gold deposits. Boungou is designed as an open-pit operation and utilizes a crushing and leaching facility for gold extraction. Due to its location in a remote region of the country, the construction of the mine was a logistical feat that also required the improvement of local transportation routes. The mine is characterized by above-average gold grades in the ore, making it particularly attractive economically. In recent years, the mine has faced operational challenges due to the regional security situation but has remained a cornerstone of the national mining industry. Endeavour Mining continuously invests in security and social projects to ensure acceptance among the local Gourmantché population. The project contributes significantly to the national treasury through royalties and taxes.
