Pomorie Lake (Bulgaria)

Weather…

Pomorie Lake is a hypersaline lagoon on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, located north of the town of Pomorie. Separated from the sea by a narrow sand spit, it covers an area of approximately 7 to 8 square kilometers. The lake is internationally recognized as a significant wetland and is protected under the Ramsar Convention. Pomorie Lake is particularly famous for its medicinal mud, formed by biological processes in the saline water and used for therapeutic purposes since antiquity. The area lies on the Via Pontica bird migration route and hosts over 200 bird species, including the rare Sandwich tern. Salt production here has a tradition spanning millennia, which is vividly documented in the nearby Salt Museum. Protecting this fragile ecosystem is crucial for maintaining biological diversity and the sustainable use of natural resources.
