Berakas Beach is part of the Berakas Forest Recreation Park and provides a more dramatic coastal landscape than many other beaches in Brunei. The beach is known for its steep sandy cliffs and the significant coastal erosion that constantly reshapes the scenery. Large, fallen trees are often found on the beach, a testament to the power of the sea. Due to the strong surf and steep bank, the beach is not well-suited for swimming, but it is a fascinating place for nature lovers and photographers. The adjacent forest park features trails that lead through a unique Kerangas (heath) forest, which grows on nutrient-poor, acidic sandy soil. The park also has picnic areas and an observation tower. The combination of forest and wild coastline makes Pantai Berakas a unique destination.

Getting there
This coastal recreation area is located very close to the capital and is easily reached via a short drive along the coastal highway. The entrance is clearly signposted, leading directly into the adjacent forest park before opening up to the shoreline.
Best season
The dry season, falling between February and April, provides the best sunny conditions for beachcombing and forest picnics. The monsoon months from November to January bring heavy showers and rougher seas, which can severely limit outdoor activities.
Terrain & paths
The landscape notably combines a dense, flat recreational forest park that abruptly meets a steep, dramatically eroding cliffside dropping to the sand. Walkways within the forested area are well-maintained, but descending to the beach requires caution.
What to bring
Basic beachwear and sturdy sandals are usually sufficient for a visit, alongside generous applications of sunscreen and bug spray for the forest edge. If planning to use the public barbecue facilities, visitors must bring all their own food and charcoal.
Parking
A spacious, dedicated paved parking lot is conveniently located right at the entrance of the recreation forest, free of charge for all visitors. It rarely reaches full capacity, except during major national public holidays when local families flock to the coast.
Safety
Swimming in the ocean here is generally discouraged due to unpredictable currents and a surprisingly steep drop-off just beyond the shoreline. Visitors should stay away from the fragile cliff edges, as soil erosion can cause unexpected collapses.
Time needed
Most locals spend roughly two to three hours here, typically arriving in the late afternoon to enjoy a forest walk followed by the sunset over the water. Those hosting family barbecues or extensive picnics may easily turn their visit into a half-day outing.
