Ronse (Renaix) is a characterful and hilly city in the province of East Flanders, located in the heart of the Flemish Ardennes on the linguistic border with Wallonia. The city experienced an enormous boom in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a flourishing center of the textile industry. Numerous industrialist villas built in the Art Deco style and preserved factory buildings still bear witness to this prosperous era today; the Must, Museum of Textiles is dedicated in detail to this history. Ronse is deeply rooted in old traditions, foremost the Fiertel Procession, a historical parade around the city borders in honor of Saint Hermes that dates back to the Middle Ages. The surrounding landscape, characterized by the steep hills of the Flemish Ardennes such as the Muziekberg, makes Ronse a paradise for cyclists and nature lovers.
