Qal'at al-Bahrain (Bahrain)

Weather…

Qal'at al-Bahrain, also known as the Bahrain Fort, is an exceptional archaeological site that has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. The site consists of an artificial settlement mound (tell) that was inhabited over a period of about 4,500 years, from approximately 2300 BC to the 16th century AD. It was once the capital of the Dilmun civilization, a major trading hub linking Mesopotamia with the Indus Valley. Atop the mound sits an imposing 16th-century fortress built by the Portuguese during their expansion in the Persian Gulf. Excavations have revealed residential quarters, public buildings, religious sites, and military structures that provide insights into the social and economic development of the region. Particularly noteworthy are the massive defensive walls and the ancient harbor, which underscore the strategic importance of the location. Today, the site houses a modern museum that showcases valuable finds such as seals, pottery, and jewelry. Qal'at al-Bahrain is a living testament to Bahrain's long history as a crossroads between Eastern and Western cultures.
