Al Khamis Mosque (Bahrain)

Weather…

The Al-Khamis Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the Gulf region and a significant historical landmark in Bahrain. It is believed to have been founded during the Umayyad dynasty in the 7th century, although the current structure largely dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, following several reconstructions. Its most iconic features are the twin minarets, which were built at different times and reflect the mosque's long and layered history. The western minaret is the older of the two. The complex also includes an old prayer hall and a madrasa (school). Archaeological excavations at the site have unearthed important artifacts, including Kufic script inscriptions, which provide valuable information about the early Islamic period on the island. Although it is no longer used for regular worship, the Al-Khamis Mosque stands as a powerful symbol of Bahrain's early Islamic heritage.
