A'ali Burial Mounds (Bahrain)

Weather…

The A'ali Burial Mounds are a particularly dense and impressive section of the larger Dilmun Burial Mounds complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The village of A'ali is famous for having the largest concentration of these prehistoric burial mounds in Bahrain. Among them are the so-called 'royal tombs', which are the largest and most elaborate of all the mounds discovered. These tombs, reaching up to 15 meters in height and 45 meters in diameter, date to around 2000 BC and are believed to have been built for the elite or rulers of the Dilmun culture. They consist of multiple chambers and an outer ring wall. Excavations in these tombs have yielded valuable artifacts, providing insights into the wealth and power of the Dilmun elite. The village of A'ali itself is also a modern center for pottery, a tradition that may stretch back to the Dilmun era.
