King Fahd Causeway (Bahrain)

Weather…

The King Fahd Causeway is a monumental bridge and causeway system connecting the island kingdom of Bahrain with mainland Saudi Arabia. The 25-kilometer-long link was officially opened in 1986 after a four-year construction period and cost approximately 800 million US dollars. The structure consists of five bridge sections linked by artificial embankments, with the longest bridge having a span of 150 meters. In the middle of the causeway is an artificial island known as 'Passport Island', which houses the border and customs stations for both countries. This island also features restaurants, a mosque, and observation towers offering panoramic views over the Persian Gulf. The causeway fundamentally transformed economic and social relations between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and is one of the busiest links in the region. Thousands of commuters and tourists cross the bridge daily, leading to heavy traffic, especially on weekends. The project is considered a masterpiece of civil engineering and symbolizes the close partnership between the two Gulf states. The causeway is not just a transport route but also a vital artery for trade and tourism.
