Shaikh Isa House (Bahrain)

Weather…

The Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa House in Muharraq is a splendid example of traditional Gulf architecture and was the residence of Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, the ruler of Bahrain from 1869 to 1932. Built around 1800, the house served as his home and the seat of his government. The building is designed around several courtyards, which provided natural ventilation during the hot summer months. A prominent feature is the wind towers (badgirs), which captured cool breezes and funneled them into the rooms below. The walls are constructed from coral stone, and the rooms are adorned with fine woodcarvings, gypsum works, and stained-glass windows. The house is divided into four main sections: the family wing, the shaikh's wing, the guest wing, and the servants' wing. Today, the house is a museum, offering visitors a fascinating insight into 19th-century royal life.
