Pearling Path (Bahrain)

Weather…

The Pearling Path, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a 3.5-kilometer trail winding through Muharraq, the former capital of Bahrain. It stands as a testament to the rich history of the pearling industry, which was once the backbone of the country's economy. The path connects 17 historic buildings, including the homes of wealthy pearl merchants, mosques, and warehouses (amaras), as well as three offshore oyster beds and a section of the coast. Each element of the path tells a part of the pearling story, from the arduous work of the divers to the opulence of the merchants. The path begins at the Abu Mahir Fort and guides visitors through the narrow alleyways of Muharraq, past beautifully restored buildings that showcase the unique architecture of the Gulf region. The Pearling Path is not just a monument but a living cultural heritage that documents the social and economic history of Bahrain.
