Samaheej is a village on the northern coast of Muharraq Island in Bahrain. It has a rich and significant history dating back to the pre-Islamic era. Historical texts, particularly from Nestorian Christian sources, mention Samaheej (or Samahij) as the seat of a bishopric. This suggests it was once an important center of Christianity in the Gulf region. Archaeological findings in the area support this historical importance. Today, Samaheej is a predominantly Shia Muslim village. It has retained much of its traditional character, although, like its neighboring villages, it has been affected by urbanization and land reclamation. The village is closely linked to its neighbor, Al Dair, sharing many cultural and social ties. The community is strong and proud of its unique historical heritage.
