Arad is a town on Muharraq Island in Bahrain, known for its impressive fortress, Arad Fort. Built in the 15th century, this fort is a classic example of Islamic military architecture. It has been beautifully restored and is illuminated at night, creating a spectacular sight. Arad is strategically located near Bahrain International Airport and is connected to Manama by causeways. The town has developed into a sought-after residential area, offering a mix of modern apartments and traditional houses. Arad Bay, including the Arad Bay Park, is a protected marine area and a popular recreational destination. The park features a long walkway that is very popular with locals and is home to a variety of bird species, making it an important spot for birdwatchers. With Romania's full Schengen accession on 1 January 2025, passenger checks at the Nădlac crossing to Hungary were removed, strengthening Arad's role as a western transport hub.
