Cabildo of Buenos Aires (Argentina)

Weather…

The Cabildo of Buenos Aires is one of Argentina's most significant historical buildings, located on the Plaza de Mayo. The original structure was erected in 1610, though the current building largely dates back to 1764 and underwent several modifications over the centuries. During the colonial era, it served as the seat of the city administration and the court of justice. It gained global prominence as the site of the May Revolution in 1810, which triggered the process of independence from Spanish rule. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, parts of the wings were demolished to make way for Avenida de Mayo and Avenida Julio A. Roca, giving it its current, narrower appearance. Since 1933, it has been a National Historic Monument and houses the National Museum of the Cabildo and the May Revolution, displaying numerous artifacts from the nation's formative years.
